DNS leak — what it is and how to fix it

Understand DNS leaks and verify HorizonVPN is protecting your DNS queries.

A DNS leak can occur when name lookups use a resolver outside the expected VPN route. Test the connected session separately from any custom browser or operating-system secure-DNS setting.

How to test for DNS leaks

  1. 1Connect to HorizonVPN
  2. 2Open the DNS leak test on horizonvpn.org or another trusted test site
  3. 3Run the extended test if the tool provides one
  4. 4Check whether the results identify the resolver you normally use when the VPN is disconnected

If you see your ISP's DNS servers

  1. 1Return Protocol to Auto and reconnect
  2. 2Temporarily turn off a custom DNS, Private DNS, or browser DNS-over-HTTPS override that you configured yourself
  3. 3Repeat the test in a private browser window
  4. 4Try another HorizonVPN location
  5. 5If the normal ISP resolver still appears, use Report an issue and include the test time and platform

Ad, tracker, malware, and family filters select a DNS protection policy. They are filtering controls, not a manual DNS-server selector.
