Using torrent clients safely with HorizonVPN

3 min read·Updated September 16, 2026

Use a connect-before-open workflow and verify the public address shown to a legal P2P test.

For most users, the safest setup is to run the HorizonVPN app and connect before opening your torrent client. This keeps the torrent traffic inside the encrypted VPN tunnel.

Before a transfer

  1. 1Close the P2P client if it is already running
  2. 2Enable HorizonVPN Kill switch
  3. 3Connect HorizonVPN first
  4. 4Start with a legal test torrent, such as an open-source Linux ISO
  5. 5Use a reputable torrent-address test and confirm it shows the VPN address rather than your normal public address
  6. 6Stop the test and close the P2P client before disconnecting HorizonVPN

Do not bind a torrent client to an interface name copied from another device or an old guide. Interface names vary by operating system and connection method, and a wrong selection can bypass the protection you expected.
