What is Kill Switch and should I enable it?
Kill Switch blocks traffic when the VPN tunnel is unavailable, with different controls on Android.
Kill Switch blocks normal internet traffic when the VPN tunnel is not carrying it. This reduces the chance that an app continues over your regular connection after an unexpected VPN interruption.
How it works
On platforms where HorizonVPN can control this setting, the app applies it before connecting. If the tunnel drops, network access stays blocked until protection is restored or you turn the setting off.
Should you enable it?
- Enable it when preventing traffic outside the VPN is more important than uninterrupted internet access
- Expect internet access to stop temporarily if the VPN disconnects
- Leave it off only when you intentionally want the device to return to its normal connection after a VPN interruption
- 1Open HorizonVPN and go to Settings
- 2Find Security and turn on Kill switch
- 3Reconnect if the app asks you to apply the new protection to the next session
On Android, use the Always-on VPN action in HorizonVPN to open Android VPN settings. Turn on both "Always-on VPN" and "Block connections without VPN" there. Android does not allow the app to switch those system settings on for you.
